Wally Hayward, a Conrades Marathon legend, was a guest at the first St Stithians Athletics meeting in 1954 and signed a copy of the programme that can be seen in the Norman Tickton Collection. Hayward won the Comrades Marathon 5 times between 1930 and 1954 and ran it for the last time in 1988 at the age of 80 in a time of 10:58:03.
